2015 Annual Report

Our annual report highlights just a few of the amazing victories we have seen this past year. Our work has encompassed such broad issues as privacy, racial justice, LGBTQ equality, women’s rights, criminal justice reform, and fair & just policing.

I am excited to share our 2015 Annual Report. It highlights just a few of the amazing victories we have accomplished this past year.

Together, we have:

• Brought the Fourth Amendment into the 21st Century with protections from unregulated technology, protecting our privacy from unreasonable government surveillance.
• Fought for racial justice through the courts, and public education with our partners Racially Just Utah.
• Earned nationwide respect for passing LGBT anti-discrimination housing and employment measures in the legislature.
• Defended reproductive freedom as we protected breast-feeding mothers in workplaces and the courts, and proudly stood with Planned Parenthood to defend quality healthcare.
• Passed landmark legislation to reduce Utah’s prison populations and began the #YesOnSix campaign to address Utah’s unconstitutional indigent defense system.
• Amplified the voices of community members who are most impacted by law enforcement abuse of power.

I am proud of the ways in which we have worked collaboratively to tackle some of the biggest civil liberties issues of our time. As you’ll see in the annual report, it was often the combination of the ACLU of Utah’s legal, legislative and community advocacy work that led to such impactful, sweeping change in the policies and practices that affect the liberties and freedom of each and every Utahan.

We are so grateful to partners and allies like you, whose dedication and support has sustained us not just over the past year, but for the past 58 years. I can’t wait to see what kind of progress we can achieve together in 2016!
