Protect Your Rights and Those You Care About

Utah's 2025 Legislative session started on January 21, 2025. When your rights are at risk, you deserve to know first.

At the ACLU of Utah, we are gearing up for a critical legislative session, and we need your help to defend the rights and liberties of all Utahns.

This year, we are focused on key issues that could profoundly impact your freedoms:

  • Immigration
Harmful bills targeting immigrant communities are expected. These include enhanced penalties for undocumented individuals, new e-verify requirements for employers, and restrictions on asylum seekers’ rights. We’re watching these bills closely and need your support to push back.
  • Voting
Voter access is under threat. Proposed legislation will gut vote by mail and increase the threshold for passing ballot initiatives. These bills would make it harder for you to vote and for grassroots movements to pass laws that protect our rights.
  • Reproductive Rights
Reproductive rights remain under attack. We could see a new gestational ban, as well as attempts to restrict medical abortion and access to clinics and services. Your voice will be essential to stop these harmful changes.
  • LGBTQ+ Rights
This year, LGBTQ+ rights are under threat once again, especially for our kids. Proposed bills would ban Pride flags in classrooms and allow teachers to ignore students’ preferred names and pronouns. We expect even more bills targeting transgender and nonbinary youth to come.
