Salt Lake City | The ACLU of Utah would like to make the following statement about the May 15 scheduled retirement of Utah Department of Corrections Executive Director Rollin Cook.
“The ACLU of Utah values the strong working relationship we’ve enjoyed with Rollin Cook,” said Brittney Nystrom, ACLU of Utah Executive Director. “He was always responsive to our concerns about the health, safety, and housing of inmates, as well as favoring increased transparency of prison policies and conditions. We hope to continue these same shared goals with his successor.”
“Rollin kept an open mind to our input and he was open to making changes when he agreed with us,” said Leah Farrell, ACLU of Utah Staff Attorney. “Early on during his tenure, we brought several concerns about prison visitation policies to him, and the Department took quick action to address those concerns.”
