ACLU Utah is Proud to Announce and Congratulate Niki Venugopal on Receiving the Liberty Bell Award
Niki Venugopal, Director of Campaigns at the ACLU of Utah, won the Utah State Bar’s Liberty Bell Award. Each year the Young Lawyers Division of the Bar awards this recognition to a non-lawyer for encouraging greater respect for law and the courts, stimulating a sense of civic responsibility, and contributing to good government in the community. She was honored as the 2021 winner in 2022 due to COVID-19.
Niki was honored for her work coordinating a statewide effort to educate Utah voters about the voting process, defend their right to vote, and work with elections officials to encourage them to expand voting access. Niki and her team of many volunteers took to polling places all around Utah and made a particular emphasis on San Juan County, where they paid close attention to issues affecting Navajo voters.
Niki continues to uphold the core principles of the award as she has recently hosted several community events and townhalls, mainly focusing on the importance of the County Prosecutor election and position in addressing issues in the criminal legal system.
