Were you unable to come to our membership meeting on October 11? We get it, things happen or you might live too far from Salt Lake City? For everyone who was unable to attend the membership meeting, here’s all the information we shared. We hope to see many of you there next year!
2018 Annual Membership Meeting Resources
This year—as we celebrate our 60th anniversary—we made this annual Membership Meeting a little different. Instead of listening to PowerPoint presentations, guests circulated between six “policy kiosks” focused on ACLU priorities like Refugee & Immigrant Rights, Gender Equality, LGBTQ Equality, Participatory Democracy, Smart Justice, and Privacy & Technology.
Each graphic represents a handout that was available at our meeting and you can click on it to download a PDF of that resource. We have also included actions that you can take within each issue area that you may be interested in.
How can you help? There are over 65,000 refugees in the Salt Lake Valley and almost 250,000 immigrants in Utah. Volunteer with: Catholic Community Services, Comunidades Unidas, Know Your Neighbor Volunteer Program, International Rescue Committee or Utah Coalition of La Raza to grow our welcoming community.
How can you help? Volunteer with Planned Parenthood. Are you a woman in business looking to improve your skills? Check out the Women’s Business Center, a division of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, because who runs the world? Girls.
How can you get involved? VOTE. VOTE. VOTE. No seriously, VOTE. Peruse our voter empowerment guide which provides information on the upcoming midterm elections. Here’s how to convince your disillusioned friend to vote. Also, on the ballot this November is Proposition 4 which seeks to create an independent redistricting commission. Better Boundaries (Prop 4 advocates) are always looking for volunteers. You can also volunteer with ACLU’s People Power.
How can you help? Stay up to date on all things Smart Justice including upcoming events and ways to take action. Read our blueprint on how to reduce incarceration in Utah by 50% - that’s not a typo and we have step by step instructions. Or, advocate with Racially Just Utah.
How can you help? Sign this petition to restore net neutrality. Did you know your elected leaders can’t ghost you? You have the right to slide into their DMs. Know your rights when elected leaders block you.
