Protecting the Bill of Rights in Utah since 1958

Indigent Defense

IDP YesOn6 croppedThe Sixth Amendment of the Constitution grants everyone the right to effective legal counsel, regardless of individuals' ability to pay. We work to strengthen state and county laws to give impoverished men, women, and children access to fair defense. We promote a fair and effective criminal justice system in which incarceration is used only as a last resort and its purpose is to prepare prisoners for release and a productive, law-abiding life at the earliest possible time.
