Cyber-Lobbying for Civil Liberties

Want to be a more effective "Cyber-Lobbyist" during the upcoming session?statecapitol

The Utah State Legislature's website is an amazing tool, with many cool features that will help you with your community lobbying efforts in support of civil liberties with the ACLU of Utah. It can take a while, though, to learn the ins-and-outs of this sweeping site. We want to help you get started!

We have heard from more people than ever before who want to be involved in the Utah State Legislative session, advocating for important civil liberties issues with the ACLU of Utah. We've also heard from many folks who aren't comfortable using Utah's very comprehensive - and very transparent - legislative website. You asked for help, and we want to give it to you!

Come to the ACLU of Utah office (355 N. 300 W.) on Wednesday, January 25, from 6:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m., for a workshop on how to use the le.Utah.gov website to support your community lobbying efforts. You will learn how to read the many helpful calendars (weekly and monthly) on the website, where to find live streaming audio of committee hearings (if you can't get away from work!), how to contact your representatives (or even find out WHO represents you), how to translate the "reading calendars" for the House and Senate (and watch live video of the proceedings!), and much more.

We encourage you to bring your laptop, if you have one - but we will also project the site on the big screen for everyone to follow along. You can take notes to keep next to your desktop computer at home! Your smartphone is also a great tool for cyberlobbying, so be sure to bring that along.

Note: we are working with volunteers to get this workshop live-streamed, for all our community lobbyists across the state. Stay tuned!
